Artist Statement David Spriggs was born in Manchester, England in 1978, and moved to Canada in 1992. He studied painting and sculpture at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver (1996-2000), and sculpture at Concordia University in Montreal, graduating with a Masters degree in Fine Art in 2007. He undertook student residencies at Central St. Martins College of Art in London, England (1999) and the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany (2006). Spriggs’ exhibitions in Canada include shows at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery and Rodman Hall Arts Centre, and his work is in the permanent collections of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the National Museum of Quebec. Spriggs was the recipient of the Calgary Immigrants of Distinction Arts Award in 1998. Since 2000, his practice, in his words, has been concerned with “concepts of space and relationships between the thresholds of the second and third dimensions, the immaterial form, perception, deconstruction, time, movement including speed and stasis, the body, the appropriation of symbols, and strategies of power.” He currently lives and works in Montreal, Quebec.Official website: www.davidspriggs.com CV EducationConcordia University in Montreal.
